It has not been widely reported, but three golden eagles have been found dead in Scotland. It is believed they were poisoned. It is ironic, to put it mildly, that gamekeepers kill such magnificent birds in order to protect the game birds that are reared for commercially driven shooting sport.

The practice of killing raptors in Scotland has been going on for years, but nothing effective has been done to prevent it. In this case all the birds - for there were others too -  were found on the same estate and so hopefully the police will be able to pinpoint the criminals and legal action can be taken.

In any tragic situation I try to see the bigger picture.  Here, all I can think is that it demonstrates once again the insensitivity of some humans and highlights the need to honour all elements of life on earth - biodiversity, as I talked about yesterday.

Sadly, except in a minority of the population, there has been little interest in the story. How much we have to learn.
