The first day of 2014 saw a new calendar year, and also a new Moon which, according to certain astrologers, symbolised through its conjunction with Pluto the taking of the Sun into the underworld and the bringing of the underworld into the sky – truly new beginnings, and new, inter-dimensional opportunities. The astrological omens were demonstrated well, here where I live in rural mid-Wales: the Sun was nowhere to be seen, and the light was so obscured by cloud it seemed like twilight all day. Water fell from the skies torrentially as if someone was emptying huge buckets over us, and springs and geysers opened up like fountains in the grounds of my home. Birds could not fly nor feed, and Felix the cat stared forlornly at the rivulets lashing the windows before abandoning his day for sleep. [caption id="attachment_2115" align="alignright" width="150"] storms of change[/caption] I walked in the rains, and was startled to hear, above the roar of the raging river, the constant drone of commercial aircraft flying overhead: usually planes are invisible and inaudible in this peaceful place, but the extreme conditions must have magnified the sounds in a way I have never known before, like a foghorn in water on a foggy day. When lightning and thunder joined the weather, I was reminded of the old belief that the gods were expressing their wrath, but chose to see it as the storm which heralds change. More storms are promised, and it is likely that 2014 will see many more challenges from the elements. It can be depressing to have day after day of rain and winds, or cold or drought, particularly when it results in suffering or loss, but it can help if you remember that it is part of the process of growing up spiritually, for the greater good of everything and everyone. It is a new Moon and a new year, and it is a time when Heaven becomes part of Earth and Earth becomes part of Heaven. However dark the clouds, the Light is there, always. [byline]]]>
