I am speaking of being spiritual when you are human, those passing moments of life on earth when you are limited by careful plan, restricted in knowledge and spiritual memory to enable you to practise without pre-condition and thereby reach the stars. If you make it complex, you will struggle; if you make it simple, you will succeed to the highest degree. [caption id="attachment_1413" align="alignleft" width="169"]The simplicity and beauty of a starling The simplicity and beauty of a starling[/caption] Reminders of this important lesson are constant, gifts of Spirit to help us on our human journey, but they are noticed rarely. Convolution is everywhere, from our way of using money to how we nourish ourselves, how we live, and our expectation of, if not dependency on, intricacy makes life more a struggle than it need be. The ongoing political controversy over the American economic Fiscal Cliff is a good example of a situation so layered in vested interest, political power games and materialistic priorities that the core truths have been forgotten and consideration for present and future global citizens is largely disregarded. The key issues are simple: America has a heavy debt which must be addressed now; America has a political system based on an outdated Constitution which enables inertia, delay and deadlock; a growing number of Americans are totally dependent on state aid which is dangerous for democracy and the balance of power; America has allowed money to become God. Issues of racism and population growth are relevant also. These facts can be applied to many developed countries, of course, but the Fiscal Cliff problem, the focus for attention world-wide, is a reminder to us all of the importance of seeing a situation simply and realistically, and dealing with it clearly, immediately and for the greater good. As the President and Congress argue about taxes and try to delay full resolution through false rhetoric and deceptive legislation, the position becomes more serious by the day despite the sticking-plaster deal agreed last night. The more the heart of the problem is ignored in favour of postponing the unpalatable for subjective gain, the more inevitable it is that Spirit will impose a painful lesson to make us remember once and for all that there is a better way - the way of Spirit and, indeed, the true way of being human. Imagine how wonderful life would be if it were simple. It can be and one day it will be, and simplicity can start now, today - if you choose.]]>

  1. You make an interesting point about the U.S. Constitution (Constitution) being outmoded, Claire. Even former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, a Reagan appointee, thinks the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms is more modern than what is found in the Constitution.
