I try always to be accepting of the weather in the knowledge that I cannot change it and that its variable condition has a purpose and a deeper meaning, but to have lived within a sombre-grey cloud, sometimes just damp more often soaking, for many days on end now has reminded me once again how important is the sunlight to me and to all which shares my world. This pallid summer is not only disheartening, but ominous to farmers and to many species of nature. We need the Sun.
Some of you who may be reading my words in other countries may smile wryly as you remember or still be experiencing a scorching summer dominated by an unforgivingly inflammatory Sun and a desperate need for water – another example of the polarisation which is the hallmark of the state of our civilisation. It has to be so, for our environment reflects our state of human being: our purpose, yours and mine, is to come into perfect balance with soul and spirit in alignment, but for most of us, we are separated from our source by the conflicting calling of that shadow part of us – our flaws and frailties, wants and desires, and the light of our soul which so wishes to shine.
As we wrestle with our choices it helps to know that, with absolute certainty, the polarisation within us will cease one day and we will be in harmony within and without. Gaia too, suffering her own tensions through soul experience and human impact, will transform herself as planetary balance is restored in a way that will be magnificent.
The Sun, our barometer and controller, will teach us more about ourselves and our world through its activities and their effect in weeks and months to come, and from this about the importance of being in balance through acceptance and discernment, integrity and kindness. These present times, dominated by revelations about greed and corruption, materialism and money, extremes of weather, and the wonders of the Universe, have so many reminders both about balance and imbalance, and also about the unstoppable power of Spirit, which lies at the heart of the Sun and which always is our friend. He may not be visible, but the Sun is always there.]]>
