The pundits said, some days ago, that the killing of Turkish civilians by Syrian soldiers would not escalate tensions between neighbouring countries, and that neither country wanted war; it has proven to be an over-optimistic assumption as Turkey makes it clear that it will not tolerate Syrian aggression against Turks or Turkey, and that it will do all it can to prevent weapons reaching Syria that may be used against them, including using force.
It is a precarious situation which is developing, whereby an accidental stray shell or an incursion into the wrong air space could precipitate military conflict involving not just Syria and Turkey but, with Turkey being a member of NATO, NATO members more generally. Already the NATO secretary-general Anders Rasmussen has promised to “protect and defend Turkey if necessary”. As the Syrian government hardens its position and young men and women from elsewhere arrive to support the militants; as Lebanon, Iraq and Israel are touched by fighting on their borders; as thousands of Syrian refugees arrive in Jordan and Lebanon; anything could happen.
It is important to recognise the growing volatility in the region as something not to be feared but to be accepted as part of the unravelling of what was in order to clear the way for what is to come. I have said before that the ascension of Earth and humanity will come about as a result of the influence of the Fourth Ray of Harmony through Conflict, whereby accepted values and traditional ways based on materialism, aggression, power and control will be challenged and then swept away as they are proven to be obsolete for the new times. What we see in this place of turmoil is the Fourth Ray in action, bringing global peace when, at last, we recognise the folly of war. I pray we learn the lessons soon, and well.]]>
