The night skies have been brilliant in recent times, rich in their blackness in the Dark of the Moon.
Noticeably, to the east a celestial diamond has hung in still suspension, watchful and vocal in its silence and powerful by its presence: the four points of the diamond are Jupiter, Mars, Mercury and the Pleiades, and they show themselves still night after night if you choose to watch, and learn.
The message they bring, together and separately, is one of warning and of hope. Jupiter speaks of the search, the longing for truth and philosophical insight at a time when truth is lacking and interest in insight is thin; Mars reminds us of the prevailing and destructive veneer of conflict, challenge and anger that shrouds our human world; Mercury is the intermediary between the realms, the mediator trying to bring reason and fairness and heavenly principle to anguished hearts; while the Pleiades, great guides to Earth, encourage us with celestial guidance and the opportunity for spiritual connection. Warning and hope.
Our disconnection from the cosmic world has never been greater than it is now, and the sense of loss that comes from the sorry state of being that is our human self-absorption is immense. The need for divine comfort shows itself in the growing interest in religion and spiritual ritual, but some may question if modern churches now – with some exceptions – are shallow, and if church leaders can inspire as once they did. Mars prompts us to see the conflict that is observable in different religions as well as churches, and how devotion can be used as an excuse for violence.
Throughout our human history the sense of the importance of a divine force guiding our lives has been great and reverence for the stars and planets, comets and other beings of space profound. We lived for it and by it, and everything we did was guided by this sense of mystical connection. The coming of the “Age of Enlightenment”, however, which emphasised reason, science and individual liberty created a separation from Spirit which has become embedded in this waning civilisation, and the growing distraction of addictive technology can only deepen the estrangement.
Disconnection and complacency leads, inevitably, to retribution, and taking the divine for granted never ends well.
That, perhaps, is the message of the four messengers creating the great diamond in the sky. We are free to choose a path of connection or disconnection, but in so doing we need to be aware of what we are doing. Enlightenment in fact is being true to ourselves and living in our higher self in purity of consciousness where ego is transcended: it is being one with God, and with everything – the antithesis of the Age of Reason. The new, real Age of Enlightenment is waiting to be claimed.
