Abusing Gaia through Fracking

It is not true. Indeed, it is disappointing that the headlines do not say what else was in the Journal of Marine and Petroleum Geology, which was that the drilling of boreholes for fracking brings a very significant risk both in the process itself and also in the danger that the wells, filled with masses of toxic waste water, will collapse over time causing underground flooding with serious consequences as the freed water seeps into seismic fault lines and waterways. The technology to identify the areas of risk and ways of prevention is expensive and its use time-consuming: fracking companies which would have to pay for the investment will resist strongly any requirement to strengthen safety measures this way. The report says also that for Britain, a small and over-populated country, the anticipated race to do fracking wherever possible will mean that many places will be affected by dust and dirt, noise and pollution and heavy lorries, and the countryside once again will be the sacrifice for easy energy and commercial gain albeit with many risks. It seems the risks do not count and the environment does not matter when it comes to a choice between quality of life and a quick fix solution to a problem perpetuated by successive governments. 1. Fracking has also been known to cause earthquakes in the U.S.
Intuitively speaking, a concise summary of your post, Claire, runs something like this:
Gaia: What the frack are you doing to me, humans? Bugger all that's decent.
