Fracking: a Problem and an Opportunity

A report into fracking near Blackpool has proven that two earthquakes were indeed caused by this high pressure pumping of water and chemicals into rock, but that, even though further earthquakes will be inevitable and there are serious concerns about the contamination of ground water, fracking should continue in the UK. For me, this is an unfortunate use of our natural resources, and I suspect local residents in areas identified for future fracking will not be happy at the prospect of environmental disturbance and the undermining of their land through processes proven to carry risks. However, while there will be protest at the plans, because the panel of scientific experts claim the risks can be contained, it is likely that the British government will authorise “hydraulic fracturing” because of its value as a convenient energy resource. If so, it is not the end of the story for there is much that can be done to support our beautiful planet through the fracking experience, which is worldwide now. There is even greater urgency for research into viable natural alternatives for power based on the Sun, water and wind and for brave independent investors to support the many researchers doing this work now. Your thoughts and mine, too, can and do make a difference: the more we grumble and see the negativity in the situation, the more we are empowering it, but by being realistic and instead focusing on the efforts and goodwill of holistic scientists and environmentalists in positions of influence, we can help them and help our world. The power of thought, or prayer, is so often overlooked: the more we, collectively, see our human home in peace, beauty and balance the more it will be so. Fracking is not to be feared, nor is it necessarily to be embraced, but it can be made to be meaningless, for in the end, nothing matters and all is well.]]>
