Happiness

I heard a snippet of a discussion on the radio the other night on the nature of happiness.  It appears there are calls for our new Prime Minister, David Cameron, to legislate to bring in tools to make people happier.  Someone else argued that it was impossible to be happy if you are unemployed or have money worries, and that only the rich had the leisure and means to be able to be happy.

I found this remarkable, for many reasons.  Firstly, happiness is a transitory emotion which never lasts.  Living in a state of peace and tranquillity can be a blissful state of being that does, and it is available to everybody, whatever their means. Secondly, no-one can provide it for you, though what it means and how to achieve it through your will and choices can be taught. Thirdly, with peace of mind and heart the most difficult of situations can be endured and passed through much more quickly and easily than when fear and stress predominate.

But at least they are talking about it...
