July’s Full Moon: Two Moons, Two Selves

We rarely see the second moon……

Following the solar eclipse on 2nd July, Tuesday sees a partial lunar eclipse, when part of the moon will be covered by the darkest part of Earth’s shadow. Fittingly, it is happening just four days before the 50th anniversary of the first landing of man on the moon, when there is much remembering of a momentous physical coming together of Earth and Moon, and of the significance of the moon for our planet and for man. The eclipse is happening, too, as Pluto sits in a position of power alongside it, causing emotions to be intensified and challenging us to let go of the past, to see where our opposition lies and how to deal with it. Pluto may be telling us to see what, where and who is our greatest opposition; which of it is our fear; and to face the challenge of acknowledging that fear and letting it go. The fear may be about confronting our relationship with ourselves, and more broadly it may be about humanity’s relationship with the celestial bodies that are so important in our lives, yet go so often forgotten. I photographed the moon as it approached its peak, and was surprised to see that it shows a reflection behind it of another moon, more golden but otherwise a mirror of the silver orb I saw. There is a meaning in everything that occurs, and I have been pondering what this picture indicates: it may be the public and the shadow side in each of us, and the world; reality and illusion; past and present; present and future; or our transition to the new consciousness. These explanations are linked and each is valid, but, looking at the second moon, I have a sense of protection, guardianship that it gives to Mother Moon, and a feeling also of waiting. Just as there is a second, greater sun behind the Sun we see daily, so there is, we know esoterically, a second moon, and when she shows herself it is to teach us. In these stormy times of change, it helps to remember that you and I have a second sun, or moon, behind us too, a source of light and strength and power that is with us always: it is Spirit, personalised for us in the guise we choose – a Guide, a Guardian Angel, a Master, or even an animal. This second self supports our soul and helps our human journey, and is there always, particularly in stormy weather. We rarely see the second moon and often forget our source of Spirit so close behind us, but at this time of a special, eclipsed full moon, remember both if you can. They are blessings, far greater than our transitory fears, and they deserve to be counted.     [byline]  ]]>
