On time and in trust

Many of the bird visitors from the south are getting ready to return home, having achieved their purpose of producing young in a temporate climate.  I will miss them.  They have been here a few weeks, but their departure is a sign that we are nearing the summer solstice and that soon the nights will be getting shorter.

I am not wishing the year away!  There is much more yet to come, and I am looking forward to the time when the tadpoles become frogs and leave the pond, when the yellowhammers bring their fledglings to our feeders to learn to eat for themselves, when the crickets sing all day and the slow-worms sunbathe on the rocks.   I am grateful, too, that this year the weather has been kind to our summer visitors with lots of warmth and sunshine producing masses of insect life to support them.

I wonder if time is accelerating for them too?  I suspect not.  The world of nature operates using universal time which is constant and infinite.  It is the time of the present and of being present, and of making the most of every timeless second.   The birds arrive on time and in trust that all will be well, and on balance it is.  Just imagine how it would be if we lived like them...
