My thoughts on the “smoking guns” of transformation which are occurring throughout the world, including Libya and New Zealand, produced wonderful feedback - thank you to all of you who troubled to comment.
One point put to me was, how can we support the people caught up in the manifestation of transformation? That is a good question, particularly when we bear in mind that we must not interfere with the karmic intent of individuals nor nations, and also that every person caught up in the upheavals of a civil war or an earthquake is there through the choice and intent of their soul. So, what can we do, and indeed, should we do anything? If we remember that our thoughts (and deeds) are energy, that they have power and can bring about change, awareness of our attitude and reactions to these events will help enormously. Just as angry thoughts about a neighbour will be felt by the neighbour, so universal criticism and judgment of Gadaffi are likely to cause the shadows around him to become stronger, amplified by the focus upon them.
The situation of a natural event like flooding or an earthquake can best be seen in a similar, non-judgmental way, if we can. If we call it a disaster and see it in totally negative terms, the people caught up in it will find it all the harder to see the bigger picture and move on. However negative a position may seem, there is always, always, a positive which eventually will outweigh that negative. In Christchurch, for example, a place known for its vulnerability to earth tremors, there is opportunity to re-build with greater strength and knowledge, to create something new from the ashes of the old, to rejoice thankfully in the magnificent community spirit that has been in evidence both there and in the world beyond. It does not deny the grief of those who suffer, but helps to re-balance it.
To answer Jacqueline’s question in summary, I believe that besides the practical help we can give through donations or voluntary assistance to troubled places, we can assist through our discernment of the reality of what is occurring; through the balance of our thoughts and heart and energy we can help to bring balance there. Our prayers for the well-being of everyone, whether it be Gadaffi (for who are we to judge?) or a family in sadness, will help enormously too.
