Sexual Harassment - Reclaiming the Past

Those were the days, many thousands of years ago, when the world was bathed in the aura of Spirit, the great spiritual age when the influence of the Divine Feminine was pre-eminent, when strong women, priestesses, guided the populations and ensured the well-being of Gaia. They were supported by men, warrior-priests and protectors of these women and the lands: they were the representation of the Divine Masculine. At times of astrological significance or for other pre-ordained reasons, man would come together with woman (it was rarely same ex sex for there was not the blurring of gender we see today) and the physical merging of the Divine Feminine with the Divine Masculine created a heightened consciousness in them that was sublime. The fusion led to One-ness, and the experience of the God within. The understanding of the importance of such an event was the basis for many ancient cultural beliefs and practices that lasted into recent times, such as in elements of witchcraft; having private rituals and support mechanisms that did not include men; reverence for the female cycles; and men had sweat lodges where they bonded and learned from each other. Sex was an honoured recognition of the best in a man and a woman, in the beauty of the physicality and the wonder of transcending it to find Spirit. As the age of the spiritual Feminine faded, replaced by the age of masculinity and materialism, the honouring of the differences between men and women changed too, and there was a reversal of roles in a negative way. Before, women respected the place of men in their society, but now women increasingly began to be seen as weaker, lesser, sometimes unwanted and too often the objects of judgment, expectation, limitation and disrespect. The Weinstein revelations about abuse against women have gone far beyond the film industry, into parliaments and all parts of society. Men have been abused as well as women, and women have been found to have abused men through domestic violence or false accusation. It is not surprising that sex is used often as a weapon of power and humiliation when social attitudes about it debase it through crude humour, pornography, sexting and casual gratification. The mystique and reverence for the act of sexual union has gone. We are at the nadir of the Age of Materialism, moving into the time when neither the masculine nor the feminine will prevail. It will be the Age of One-ness, when there is harmony and balance between men and women with mutual respect and consideration with a more caring, discerning and discreet attitude to and about sex and relations between men and women. Events are reminding us about what is unacceptable, bad-mannered, and genuine: I will be very happy to see the best of our past in the forefront of our future.     [byline]  ]]>
