The Cosmic Power of Gold

Beyond El Dorado, reminded me about the cosmic power of gold and how far it has been forgotten, when once it was the most important aspect of civilisation. I would love to see the magnificent gold headdresses and ornaments of Columbian culture thousands of years ago, the lip and ear jewellery which covered the face in such a way that it looked as if the person behind the mask was a golden god, or shapeshifting into a major symbol of power – a bat, perhaps, or an eagle. Perhaps I will……..but I will content myself for now with remembering why gold was so important to the Columbians, and to many advanced civilisations not so very long ago. They knew that gold came from the gods, created when the largest of the stars, super novas, died. For them, gold was associated with the Sun, just as silver and copper were emblems and derivatives from the Moon: the Sun God directed their life as well as giving them life, and to have or wear the gift of gold, in abundance, was a sign of the temporal and spiritual power of the wearer and (usually his) connection with God. Gold was to do with the relationship between heaven and earth, and for these great cultures it was nothing to do with monetary value, but the spiritual value was immense. They plundered what was most sacred, trampling on the beliefs and rituals of people for whom their gold was the foundation of their spiritual and human life. They were driven by base desire, the ancestors who created a modern world believing gold or its equivalent is the source of human power and pleasure for what it can buy. Gold itself is acknowledged as beautiful, in jewellery or ornament, but much of the beauty is gauged through its monetary value. If a gold ring were priced at £3 instead of £3000, would it be honoured, now? What gold do you have in your home or on your person? Or even silver? Whatever you have, whether it is a wedding ring, a gold bar or a gold watch, look at it with new eyes, today, seeing its beauty in its own right, and forgetting about its financial worth. See the light of the Sun in it, and remember the star that died and gave your gold to you. Feel the cosmic power which is embedded within, and recognize how it links you to All that Is. Enjoy it, but please honour it, too, for what it is.   [byline]  ]]>
