A Month to Prepare

COVID-19 has been remarkable for many things. Just as the forces of nature can prove themselves more powerful than man, so a virus has changed a way of life established for centuries in just a few weeks, proving impossible to control as it changes and escapes like a shapeshifting will o’the wisp. Its deadly game will continue longer than is assumed, and the casualties will be the pillars of politics and economics, of science and assumptions, and of law and order as well as human life.

What is particularly remarkable is how people have reacted to the epidemic. Some truly respect the virus and the guidelines on good practice - questionable though they may sometimes be - while others, many others, see them as applying to themselves as long as and in the way that it suits them. A number of people have the symptoms of the virus but are in denial because they do not want their way of life to be further restricted and perhaps because they see it as a stigma, or while “staying at home” they visit and entertain friends and family without a thought that it may be wrong, dangerous and selfish. No-one is beyond the reach of the virus.

As the lockdown is gently eased and boredom creeps in, this attitude of careless disregard for best safe practice will increase, and with it will come a resurgence of the virus. If there is a new wave, it will be self-inflicted.

The start of the second shock of 2020 is likely to be in one month, at the time of the June Solstice and the new moon. From the May new moon this Friday we will have four weeks, one lunar cycle, to prepare for a significant new phase in the evolution of humanity which will continue what began in January. Until we collectively change our approach to our planetary responsibilities and accept that we are in a new world, the shocks will continue to come like waves lashing a man-made defensive sea wall until it is destroyed. There is much about the old way of human life that is needing to be abandoned, and Nature will ensure it happens one way or another.

This coming period, then, is the time to prepare ourselves mentally and emotionally for what is to come, for the readier we are, the less we will be impacted adversely. It is important we do not cling on to the hope that life will return to how it was pre-virus, but that we respond to the changing societal environment realistically and honestly: life will never be the same again.

With a month to go, let us see the new world with clear eyes and the wisdom of our elders, and let us begin to dismantle the past to come to a new truth and a changed reality. It is about being flexible, accepting the unthinkable and creating revolutionary patterns of living. It is a new beginning, a chance to do better, and there is much we need to let go if we are to create, at last, our heaven on Earth.

Shocks are what we make them, and they do not need to be bad.
