Look to the skies on Wednesday if you can, and be witness to a remarkable Full Moon, Blue Moon and Supermoon. Not only will it be the second full moon in a month, but the Moon will be at her closest to Earth for the year and at her brightest: it will be 9 years before she dazzles this way again, and 14 years before we see another Blue Supermoon. It will be a most rare and powerful event.
Too often we take Mother Moon for granted, failing to recognise her constant impact on us. Her phases affect us energetically and her call reminds us of our inner world of mysticism and reflection, and the importance of keeping in balance the Sun and the Moon aspects of our being – the external and internal, the mind and the heart, and the soul and spirit linking the two.
Her reminder is particularly strong and significant at this time of the Blue Supermoon when our emotional energy is increased. She invites us to focus on healing, meditation and consideration as, at this time, she sits in the astrological sign of Pisces, the water sign of intuition and spiritual connection.
She is challenged and we are challenged meanwhile by Saturn, the austere taskmaster, who is tracking the Moon now with his masculine authority and rigid sense of order and control. He likes to control and restrict and tell us what to do, and he can create delay and discomfort for us, just as Mercury in backward mode as he is currently can do. Venus, coincidentally, is in retrograde also which can result in anxieties over self-worth and relationships, our authenticity and what may be toxic in our lives.
The Blue Supermoon gives us the opportunity to rise to all these tests and to use them to strong effect. Saturn is known as the Lord of Karma: as such he shows us our Earth lessons and ensures we learn them well, while Mercury in retrograde tricks and teases us to avoid the pitfalls he puts in our way and to have care in our communications and discernment. Venus, as she looks back, asks us to look back too at who and what we are, at what does not serve us now and in particular at the people in our lives, past and present. She is the epitome of love, but it can be a ruthless, soul-searching and uncomfortable look at love too.
The Blue Supermoon is the perfect time to go within and ponder these fundamental questions and to see them in the context of world events too. Even Mother Moon, remote and dignified, secret and yet generous, is under challenge from her human charges. Remember her with love.
