“All the world’s a stage” wrote Shakespeare, a man with a true sense of Spirit coursing through his veins and his words. Exactly so, and never more apparently than now.
As I have observed the theatricalities that have been played out in the last few days centred on corruption, abuse, deception, interrogation, arrest and resignation in the highest echelons of power my sense of unreality has grown with every revelation. If I look for sanity beyond my own home shores I see the human house of cards falling wherever I look because it is founded on mirage and illusion and wishful thinking.Just as Shakespeare provided fools and humorours in his plays to entertain his audiences and lighten a serious plot, so News International and its many related players can be seen as a symptom of Man’s self-deception and a distraction from the reality of a critical global situation.
The events that dominate the media today will be largely forgotten soon, like all illusion which must end at some point, leaving an underlying reality to be addressed. When the curtain falls on the last act we can, if we choose, create another illusion closer to home and perpetuate the separation from our truth: alternatively we can opt to observe and be with clarity and discernment, helping our progress towards total peace of mind and heart and soul.
It does not mean we cannot enjoy the theatre! However, while we watch entertainment and drama being enacted all around us, it is, for me, important to remember those people and other creatures for whom life seems a tragedy and deadly serious. As they walk their stage actors can hurt, and it would be a pity if our absorption in the play separated us from our compassion for all who in their human reality suffer, whether as a result of mis-judgment, mis-management, arrogance, loss of a job, loss of a loved one, or starvation. They have feelings too.
