Heads in the Sand

Spirit is very good at reminding us of what we need to look at, sometimes in the nick of time.

I I was reminded of this yesterday when I heard from a client who is experiencing many challenges in his life both personal and professional.  Because he had become pre-occupied by his fears and anxieties he had, without realising it consciously, taken his attention away from his business, which began to go downhill: it was only when a shareholder challenged him about the lack of performance that he was jerked awake. Looking at the situation realistically for the first time in many weeks he realised he must either do something about it immediately, or risk everything he had worked for over several years collapsing. If the phone call, instigated by Spirit, I am sure, had not come when it did, it may have been too late.

It is easy to sleepwalk through life as a continuous state of being or at times when we don’t   want to deal with something painful or difficult. It may be as (comparatively) small as not acknowledging our debts, or that our child has a behavioural problem, that a relationship is in trouble or that the roof needs repairing.  If we ignore something that needs to be addressed and do not heed the reminders either, Spirit will force us to deal with it in a way we might not choose to happen. The rug, as they say, will be pulled from under our feet and the fall may hurt.

We have so much to be grateful for to Spirit, which is trying constantly to help us with nudges and signs when we need them, to prevent a fall, but so often we are so lost in our own little worlds we do not notice and fall anyway. In the end it does not really matter for we will reach our destination one way or the other, and it is up to us whether it is via the long, rocky route or the direct and scenic path. From my observations and experience, adopting an ostrich posture to avoid the realities of human life will guarantee the former, but it does not have to be so, for any of us.
