It is an unreal and hypocritical situation. The President will be inaugurated for a second time next week, but I sense little joy in the prospect even though his mandate is unarguable. There is dogged determination and promises about, for example, gun control and particularly economic resolution, but the reality is that the likelihood of the promises being realised is questionable because of opposition in a divided Congress. Unilateral Executive Orders can only go so far.
Americans see blame and brinkmanship, the unlovely side of politics as the most serious issue for decades remains uncertain and unaddressed - and meanwhile every day the huge national debt accumulates to a level that is unbelievable. It is such a waste of money. Obama himself, through his policies, has been responsible for a huge escalation of the debt over the last four years, and it is a pity that despite his opposition to raising the debt when a Senator, his legacy is likely to be a national debt figure that is beyond repair: it may even require national bankruptcy, and soon.
Some Americans see clearly the need to begin to address the debt problem rather than extend it and through common sense and love of their country are doing all they can to get something done. Others talk and promise but see procrastination and delay as the way to avoid addressing an almost impossible situation and perhaps to protect themselves. The facts are clear: spending and borrowing are out of control.
Whenever a situation becomes grossly out of balance, lacking integrity and perpetuating falsehood, if those involved fail repeatedly to bring a cleansing resolution to it, they will find that Spirit does it for them. This is not the time for political posturing but for taking responsibility and confronting the truth: the portents are not encouraging.
