What is occurring in Thailand right now is symbolic of what will be happening more and more in other parts of the world. It could be seen to be a battle between light and dark, even if, more prosaically, it is about the people of Thailand's right to have more say in the governing of their country. It is all about power and control. I salute the bravery of the redshirt protestors who fight for democracy in their home land and who are prepared to die to achieve it. Others will do the same elsewhere. It is time and part of the changing, rebalancing world.
Whatever the rights and wrongs in this situation, on both sides, what is striking is the lack of compassion that is being shown by the ruling elite and the military. While the accuracy of media reporting is questionable sometimes, one of the benefits it brings us who watch from afar, is a sense of brutality and passion, and sadness that a gentle, gracious country is engulfed by such a crisis.
The determination on both sides is such that civil war may be inevitable. If it happens, the implications for other countries governed by oppressive regimes are enormous.
What can we do? I suggest we do not try to change anything there through prayer or healing, for it could interfere with the karma that is being played out. Instead, let us send our love and light to the place and the people - all of them - and observe what is happening with an open heart.
