The June Solstice: a Time of Challenge and Choice

A solstice is a time of perfect balance when time and space are equal, a betwixt and between time in every sense and a time when magic can be done. Humanity stands poised between a past of deep and hard learning about the frailties of man and a future where the lessons are done and we reap the reward of all our hard work. A wise and good student uses his achievements not for personal gain but to help others, passing on her knowledge gladly or developing his skills to benefit the occupants of the Planet as best she can; the giving out and sharing is the route to true abundance, while doing otherwise brings poverty of soul. The Solstice can be seen as polarisation as well as balance, and we can see, today, this being demonstrated as the Pope pleads on behalf of the Planet, but to mocking response by many; as racial and religious tensions swirl and grow worldwide; as arguments over the future of the EU - its powers, authority, integrity and democracy - dominate political and economic attention; and as the next presidential election in the US could be decided by which candidate has the most money to spend. The choice is between mind or heart, compassion or intolerance, giving or grasping, honouring or disempowering, taking or ceding responsibility, turning a blind eye or seeing the truth, doing what is right or only what you want. Soon it will be the Solstice, and with it comes another opportunity for us to do better, to ponder, to learn and to share and to change.
