The Perseid Meteors in the Dark of the Moon

I am entranced by the energy of the Moon. She is part of our planetary life but we know little about her true influence upon us and our world. Her phases repeat themselves regularly but they never are boring, for they vary according to the astrological, solar, cosmic and Gaian forces at the time. Some are overtly intense, some exert their power more subtly; all are important, but so often overlooked. Perseid MeteorsWhether I see her or not, I love the Moon. For me, the Dark of the Moon has particular significance, and to be walking in this prelude to the birth of a New Moon, in lanes and grasslands shrouded in mystery and invisibility where no-one can see me and all there is is different degrees of shadow, where creatures move past me silently and even the owls are silent, where the inner contemplation of Mother Moon is reflected in the silence of my rural world, where sometimes stars glow aloofly and sometimes there is velvet blackness all around me - is a time of all times when I feel time stand still and dimensions shift. I looked for the Perseid meteors last night, Tuesday,  sitting by my wildlife pond, surrounded by bats swooping down upon the waters and brushing my hair in their search for insects.  They were silent in their flight as they always are, linking the skies with the water and linking me with them, and with the Moon. I saw one clear point of light moving fast above me from west to east then south to north, but it would not allow me to photograph it; I felt far more was there, but hidden from me, and that was right at this time of the Dark of the Moon. If you look the meteor showers this week and see nothing, do not be disappointed but remember that the Moon will allow you to see what is needed for you, and that showers of light are exploding around you whether they are visible to you or not. The sombre shadows of the Dark of the Moon are pierced by shards of brightness, a reflection of human life, and, like human life, they are as important as the shooting stars that illuminate our world transitorily but magnificently. The light matters, and one way or another the light is there always. So is the darkness. It matters too, and it is our friend, and when we see it that way, nothing can keep us from Spirit.   ( Image by Kim MyoungSung)   [byline]  ]]>
