2023: a Year of Shades, Light and Hope

storms pass, always.....

The sun was late to rise this morning, and it was good to see the long night penetrated, at last, by light. We would miss the sun if it were not there: where there is light there is hope, and the knowing that all is well.

As we approach the Solstice you may be thinking about night and day, light and shadow, and feeling too a little battered by the shades of a dramatic 2023 that is almost done, one which has seen extremes of events in many places, events sometimes that have not been happy.

By contrast to broken promises and broken societies, the year has seen wonderful achievements:  important breakthroughs have been made in the early identification and treatment of cancers and dementia, and new powerful telescopes are giving information about a distant cosmos, a new perfect solar system and inexplicable cosmic rays that demonstrate how little we know and how truly mysterious is our Universe and what lies beyond.  We will never know everything and it is right that Spirit holds her secrets.

Conservationists have helped highly endangered species such as the blue whale, and made the encouraging discovery of species believed to be extinct.  Much good work is done by many unsung heroes, but too often its recognition is overshadowed by reporting that tends to focus upon negative stories and usually only to do with what is seen to serve or be about humans.

People are not as important as we may think we are, nor are we pre-eminent, and it is sad that so many of us have forgotten that our function on Earth is to be a bridge between the kingdom of Earth and the kingdom of Heaven, and that we are charged with caring for our Planet as our key priority.  The well-being of Earth is more important than anything else in our world, and it is good that you know this and live by it.

As we near the ending of this year with unease rippling everywhere, I encourage you to remember all the good there has been in your life and more widely and to know that there will be more good to come in the months ahead.  Turbulence and storms pass, always, and they clear the air as they enable a new cycle of calm and a new beginning. Keep calm in your life whatever the disturbances beyond, look for the truth and the good, and always, always look for the light.

I have created and recorded a new meditation for the coming Solstice, and you can download it here.
